About Potala Palace
The winter palace of the Dalai Lama until 1959. Has over 1,000 rooms and 10,000 shrines. Built at 3,700 meters altitude on Red Mountain. The Red Palace is for religious study, the White Palace for living. Contains the tombs of 8 Dalai Lamas. The walls are 5 meters thick at the base.
