About Stonehenge

The largest stones weigh 25 tonnes and were transported 30 km. The smaller bluestones came from Wales, 240 km away. Aligned with the movements of the sun, particularly the summer solstice. The outer circle originally had 30 standing stones. Its purpose remains debated: astronomical observatory, temple, or healing site. The site was built in several stages over 1,500 years.
