About Uluru (Ayers Rock)
A sacred site for the Anangu Aboriginal people. Made of arkose sandstone, it changes color at different times of day. 550 million years old. Climbing was banned in 2019 out of respect for indigenous beliefs. Most of the rock lies underground, like an iceberg. The surface area visible is only one-third of its total mass.
