About Arc de Triomphe
Commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 after his victory at Austerlitz but not completed until 1836 under King Louis-Philippe. Stands at the center of a star of twelve avenues. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was placed beneath it in 1921, and its eternal flame has been rekindled every evening since 1923.
