About Colosseum
Could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. Had a retractable canvas roof called the velarium operated by 1,000 sailors. Over 400,000 humans and over 1 million animals died in its arena. Had 80 entrances allowing the stadium to empty in minutes. The floor had 36 trap doors for elaborate special effects. Two-thirds of the original structure has been destroyed by earthquakes and stone robbers.
